Abstract:
The health of ancient trees is closely related to the growth of root system, and the improvement of root growth environment is used as an important technical measure for rejuvenation of weak ancient trees. The effects of site environment reconstruction on the growth of the ancient Celtis sinensis (No. 44011111322000296) in Baiyun District of Guangzhou city were studied and the root distribution characteristics were analyzed by ground penetrating radar. The results showed that the total N, P and K contents in leaves of C. sinensis were significantly increased both on the 300th and 600th days (P<0.05) when compared with the results on the first day of site environment reconstruction. With the extension of the reconstruction time, the root number and density of C. sinensis both showed an obvious increasing trend. After 130 days, the root number at the horizontal distance of 5.0 m was the largest, and the horizontal extension range of roots also increased. Besides, 95.69% of the roots were concentrated in the depth of 20-41 cm on the 130th day, while 93.32% of the roots were concentrated below the depth of 41 cm on the 300th day. This study showed that the site environment reconstruction is conducive to improve growth of No. 44011111322000296 C. sinensis, especially to promote the root growth and nutrient accumulation of leaves.
